Platinum Dance School was formed in October 2010 when Portland Dance School
expanded from its main Portland home to include Bridport, Broadmayne and
Weymouth. We are hoping to expand further to include Bovington and Blandford.
Having taken over, what was Portland Dance School, in July 2008 we have achieved
many new and exciting ventures. As a dance school we have set-
up and run 3 major shows. Two of these were Dance
Reviews, held at Weymouth College in 2009 and
2011. In 2010 we held a bigger show at Weymouth
Pavilion and we are currently planning our next big show
to be held again at the Pavilion in 2012. In October 2011 we also
held a Charity Show, we titled ‘Stamina and Friends’, at Weymouth
Pavilion to raise money for Help For Heroes and try a new formula of
mixing dance, singing, acrobatics and humour into what would normally be a
dance only event. This had rave reviews from participants and audiences with a request
to do similar events and invite even more organisations to participate. As well as all this, we also
hold annual assessment days and awards afternoons for our regular students. Platinum dancers also
have the chance to dance and compete in the annual Weymouth Dance Festival. In addition to the
above events Platinum have for the last two years been asked for, and provided, dancers and to
choreograph several numbers for the professional show ‘The Heat Is On’ held at the
Weymouth Pavilion. To top a very successful year, in December 2011 we took our
group ‘Stamina Performers’ to London to audition for Britain’s Got Talent.
Each year we hold many Summer Schools throughout Dorset. These are held at Holy
Trinity Primary School, Weymouth; Broadmayne First School; Blandford St Mary School
and of course Platinum Dance School on Portland. In 2012 we will also hold another
Summer School, this time at Platinum Dance School, Bridport.
